When the email preference center is set up, every subscribe, unsubscribe, and resubscribe action fires the PW_EmailSubscribed or PW_EmailUnsubscribed event. You can segment on these events by category:
- In the segment builder, click Event in Add filter by, then select PW_EmailSubscribed or PW_EmailUnsubscribed.
- Click + Attribute and select categories.
- Choose an operator.
- Pick a category from the value dropdown. It lists your actual email categories (for example, Newsletter or Product Updates) instead of raw recorded values.
The same events can also trigger follow-up automation based on category-level opt-ins and opt-outs.
Good to know: the categories a subscriber currently receives are stored in the Subscribed Email Categories tag, while a full opt-out from all marketing emails sets the Unsubscribed Emails tag to true. Transactional emails are not affected by either.
