If a large send causes a spike of app opens that overloads your backend, limit how many messages Pushwoosh sends per second. You can set a project-wide limit, override it for a specific message, or set it in the API request.
Set a global send rate for the project
- Go to Settings → Message delivery settings → Send rate.
- Turn on rate limiting for the channel you need (push, email, or SMS).
- Enter the maximum number of messages per second, then click Apply changes and confirm.
The global limit applies to all current campaigns on that channel, including those sent via API. See Set send rate limits.
Set the send rate for a single message
In a one-time push (Campaigns → One-time messages) or a Customer Journey message element, go to the delivery settings and pick an option under Send rate:
- Use global send rate settings: follows the project limit.
- Send messages without global send rate: sends as fast as possible.
- Use custom send rate: sets a limit, in messages per second, for this message only.
See Send a one-time push.
Set the send rate via API
- Messaging API v2
Notify:"send_rate": {"value": 500, "bucket": "1s"} - Legacy
/createMessage:"send_rate": 500, in pushes per second
The default allowed range is 100 to 1000 messages per second. It comes from your account restrictions, so contact support if you need a different range.
Note: a low limit makes large sends take much longer to finish. For example, 1,000,000 devices at 100 messages per second takes almost 3 hours.
