RCS messages arrive in the phone's built-in messaging app as a chat from your brand, with a card, carousel, media, or buttons. Pushwoosh sends them through Twilio as part of the SMS channel.
What you need:
- Twilio connected with your own Account SID and Auth token. If Pushwoosh provides the Twilio number and credentials for your project, RCS isn't available.
- A Twilio Messaging Service with an RCS sender and an SMS number in its sender pool. Its SID goes into Messaging Service SID.
- A From number set to the SMS number from that pool.
- An RCS sender approved by carriers in the countries you send to. According to Twilio, this takes 4–6 weeks or more per country, so start early.
Steps:
- In Twilio, create the RCS sender, register it with carriers, create the Messaging Service, and build a content template. Add the Text type to the template.
- In Pushwoosh, go to Settings → Configure Platforms → SMS, set the provider to Twilio, fill in the fields, and click Apply.
- In an SMS preset, pick a Twilio template for each language in the RCS block, then send the preset in an SMS campaign or a journey.
Phones without RCS get an SMS built from the template's Text type, not from the preset's Message field. If the template has no Text type, those phones get nothing.
In a journey, an SMS element with a quick reply template gets a branch for each button and waits up to 24 hours for a tap.
