This difference in numbers is expected and occurs because Segments and Customer Journeys count audiences differently.
- Segments count the total number of devices that match your specified filter conditions.
- Customer Journeys count the number of unique users (identified by their
User ID) who enter the journey.
If a single user has multiple devices (for example, a phone and a tablet) that both fall into your Segment's criteria, the Segment will count each device individually. However, when that Segment is used as an entry audience for a Customer Journey, the Journey will de-duplicate the list and count that user only once.
Example:
A user has an iPhone and an iPad registered with the same User ID.
* A Segment targeting all iOS devices for this user will show a count of 2.
* A Customer Journey targeting this Segment will only admit the unique user 1 time.
