Since October 2026, Pushwoosh doesn't count opens and clicks made by mail security programs and link previews, such as Microsoft Defender for Office 365, Proofpoint, or Mimecast. These programs open emails and click links before the recipient does, which used to inflate both rates. Opened and Clicked now show what recipients actually did. The same applies to open and click rates on Project overview and dashboards.
Things to keep in mind when you compare campaigns:
- Older emails can still include scanner opens and clicks, so their rates can look higher than those of recent emails. A drop after October doesn't mean engagement fell.
- Apple Mail Privacy Protection (AMPP) opens are not scanner opens and are still counted. For emails younger than 60 days, the Opened step splits them into Human opens and Machine-only opens (AMPP). After 60 days the split disappears and the total includes both.
- To build an audience of real openers, segment by the
PW_EmailOpenevent with theopened_byattribute set touser.
