The City and Country tags are automatically assigned based on the device's IP address using a GeoIP database. If a device has the Country tag but is missing the City tag, it means the IP address currently used by the device does not map to a specific city in the database.
Common reasons for this include:
- VPN or Corporate Networks: The device is connected via a VPN or corporate Wi-Fi which may mask the specific location or use a centralized IP.
- Mobile Carrier Settings: The mobile operator may assign a generic IP address that resolves only to the country level (e.g., "General") rather than a specific city.
- New IP Addresses: The IP address may be new and not yet fully indexed in the GeoIP database.
How to troubleshoot:
To verify if the network connection is the cause, try the following on a test device:
- Disable any active VPN connections.
- Switch the internet source (e.g., from Wi-Fi to mobile data or vice versa).
- Restart the application to trigger a device registration request.
If the device acquires an IP address that is mapped to a city, the tag will update automatically.
